Tife sat up on the bed. She could not take the noise anymore.
“What on earth is you people's problem?” She turned to Nifemi and pointed at her “You know how busy I have been. I have not had time for myself in two weeks. I have not slept for more than four hours in four days. And the very day I have a minute to myself, you brought your entire department into the room. Can't you be considerate for once?”
Four pairs of eyes looked at her, surprised by the outburst.
‘‘Haba, Tife” Nifemi started “it's not that deep now. We were just talking. We can go if you want.”
Tife looked at Nifemi, and rolled her eyes. It wasn't the first time Nifemi would play the innocent card, and make her look like a bad person. This time, she didn't care.
“Abeg, reduce your voices. I really need to sleep.” She laid back on her bed and closed her eyes. She heard some movements, but she didn't turn to look at what was happening. Soon, she heard the door open and close, then the room to fell silent.
When Nifemi and Tife became roommates, Tife thought she and Nifemi would be best friends. Anytime Tife went out, and she got something for herself, she always got the same for Nifemi.
If she cooked, she always cooked for Nifemi. She couldn't cook alone.
At first, Nifemi wasn't bad. Her bad attitude started out little by little. Sometimes, Nifemi will take Tire's eggs, without permission, and not replace when she bought eggs for herself.
Or, Nifemi would leave her clothes on Tife's bed.
Anytime Tife tried to talk to Nifemi about it, it was either Nifemi starts to cry or she loses her temper.
Soon jealousy came into the mix. Tife's cousin who was abroad bought the latest iPhone for her birthday. Tife being herself, happily shared the news with Nifemi.
Soon Nifemi got the same iPhone for herself, and started to post in her status “What they bought for you, I bought it for myself”
When Tife confronted her about it, Nifemi said it was not directed at her.
Anytime a man picked interest in Tife, Nifemi would find her way to speak to the man, and start a whole bullcrap story of the kind of person Tife is. Ninety nine percent of the stories were made up. Sometimes, she would date the men, and each time Nifemi was confronted, she would ask if Tife was dating any of the men.
Later in the evening, Tife woke up to an empty room. She enjoyed her sleep so much. She picked up her book and journaled a little.
Soon she started craving a drink. She dressed up, locked her room, and went to a shop not too far from her house. While she was in the shop, she met with a coursemate who also lived in the area, and they talked about the assignment they needed to submit later in the week.
When she was done, Tife walked back in the direction of her room. When she got to her door, she noticed a pair of slides. Rolling her eyes, she entered into the room.
There on her bed was Nifemi and a stranger lost in a make out session. Tife screamed out of disgust. The two scrambled to wear their clothes.
“Ahan, why did you come back so early” Nifemi asked straightening her blouse.
“I think the real question here is why were you having sex on my bed. What happened to your bed?” Tife retorted.
“First of all, it wasn't sex. We were just making out. Right?” she asked her visitor. He didn't give a reply, rather he took his bag, and awkwardly left the room.
The two looked at him surprised, buy they didn't say anything.
“I don't think we can be roommates again, Nifemi. I'll leave this room for you. Starting tomorrow, I'll look for a new roommate” Tife said removing the bedsheets from the bed.
*Haba, has it reached that level, I only stayed on your bed because I know you have an extra bedsheet. You know I just washed mine’’ Nifemi replied.
“Is that what you have to say, I caught you having sex with someone I do not know on my bed, while you have yours and you are saying it's because you know have an extra bedsheet? I don't even have time for this. You don't see what you are doing wrong?
“I'm doing something wrong?” Nifemi asked laughing hysterically “you took my water, and you didn't even ask me. I have taken my thing back. You'll wash only your plates, not minding if I'd be tired when I come back.”
Tife looked at Nifemi. Unshed tears filled her eyes. She turned her back to her roommate, replaced her bedsheets, picked up her phone and texted the first house agent on her contact list.
Forever yours, Bukola in bloom 🌸
